Najia Mahmud

Najia Mahmud is a family law lawyer based in London, Ontario. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017 after graduating from Western Law. Since 2020, Najia has specialized in supporting survivors of family violence, recognizing it in all its complex forms, including coercive control, emotional, psychological, economic, and physical abuse.

She began her career working in small firms and managing her own practice, Mahmud Law. Najia then joined the Elgin-Oxford Legal Clinic as part of the Department of Justice-funded Your Way Forward project, where she delivered trauma-informed, culturally safe legal services to survivors of gender-based violence using a holistic, wrap-around services approach.

In 2025, Najia founded Amana Family Law, with a focus on providing trauma-informed, culturally safe family law services. She believes that legal issues cannot be separated from clients’ psycho-social, economic, and cultural contexts and strives to provide legal support that reflects this holistic understanding.

Najia is committed to advocating for survivors with empathy and expertise, helping clients navigate the family law system safely and effectively while respecting their unique experiences and needs.

Real Stories, Real Impact

  • As someone who has worked in the field of family violence in various capacities for over thirty years, I have had the pleasure of working with Najia on several projects related to family violence and family law. The depth and breadth of her knowledge and the insights she has shared have been tremendous assets to the work on this issue. She is a kind, compassionate person and a fierce advocate for those who are living with family violence. Dr. Lisa Heslop, PhD, RSW

  • I had a very positive experience working with Najia. From beginning to end she was very professional, responsive, and clear in all her communication. She took the time to listen carefully and provide thoughtful and practical guidance along the way. I felt supported and confident knowing my matter was being handled by her and her office. I would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and reliable lawyer.

  • I am incredibly grateful to Najia Mahmud family lawyer. She helped me not just as a professional, but with the care and compassion of a sister. Even though I had a language barrier and no family around me, she always made me feel understood and heard. She took the time to understand my trauma and mental health struggles. In court, she explained everything to me in a way I could understand, and thanks to her dedication, even the Honourable Judge understood my situation. Because of her, I was granted custody of my daughter, and I am now at peace and moving forward in life. I will always be thankful for everything she has done for me.
